The War Horse A.K.A. Remmington A.K.A. "The Relic." We recieved this US army horse in March. He was very thin and in "poor"condition. We have since put approximately 250lbs on him and replaced his dull, brown, shaggy, malnourished coat with this sleek black coat you see today. His story, long and involved......with many a missing chapter...brought him to us. Otherwise I have the feeling that he might have ended up somewhere "unsavory." The entire tale is yet to be revealed.....but someone "battled" this horse. When you mount him he tries with all he has to flip over on top of you. It's like his brain leaves the building and his fight/flight mechanism takes over. We have him about 50-75% past this. My goal is to have him confident and comfortable for the Deleware All Horse Parade- In full Civil War regalia! This old horse needs to be restored to a place of honor and secured a home that will respect this animal's history and what he has given to his country. The Relic is not currently available for adoption.

Update 6/20/12 The Relic is making progress! It turned out that he REALLY did not like wearing a curb chain and a lot of his bad behavior was him anticipating getting hurt and trying to avoid that. Needless to say we changed his bit and he has been much better. We took him on a nice little ride today and he was fairly relaxed and happy. He was a little nervous at first, expecting to get hurt, but calmed down nicely. We started out with two people on the ropes and then cut back to just one (he is much better, but better safe than sorry right?). There was no going backwards,  no trying to flip, no bad behavior at all! Hopefully with kind, patient, learned handling he will be parade ready once again. After our nice ride we took him across the creek so that he could wade and eat some grass......A very nice day for all of us!
